If the future is what
we must cease and make the most of, we must, as a matter of fact, move ahead of
time to see what it holds for us and plan. A future not planned for would be
filled with a lot of surprises that may not be pleasing to our continent,
Africa. However, to start another decade on a good note we must as a call of
duty set our priorities right and create a master plan that can be our ultimate
guide to the future. In this piece, we shall be taking an agricultural view into
the future.
In the Agricultural sector, we are much more
interested in how we can feed the ever-increasing and growing population of the
world. In 2050, the world population is expected to increase to about 10 billion
people hence we have quite a handful of people on our hands to feed. To cater to the food needs of this population, we need 100% more food. But, the truth is the previous decades have been merged with
several challenges on food production especially Africa. Food production in
Africa has been fouled by several factors ranging from political and economic
instability to terrorism to drought and even weather constraints. However, it
is no news that Africa housed most people that are food insecure hence,
urgent attention is needed here to meet the food needs. Therefore, it has become paramount to feed
this population giving high consideration to the raging food security
challenges in Africa thus, we must include in our plans strategies that would
beat down the food security rate to the level that about 60-70% of Africa
population can be food secured and satisfied by 2050.
HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE
THIS?
To achieve this we must
begin to apply different technological advancements to agricultural production
in Africa. The government, on the other hand, should implement policies and
ensure favorable conditions that can boost food security in Africa. If we must
be food secured and satisfied in Africa by 2050, we begin to plan and practice
sustainable agriculture NOW!.
